What You’ll Need:
White card (A4, 200-220gsm)
Copy paper (A4)
HB pencil
Five Star Creative Paints (optional for extra effects)
Tip: You can also use this technique to make wrapping paper!
Steps to Create Gift Cards:
Prepare the Card Base: Fold your white card in half and set it aside.
Plan Your Design: Place the printing foam onto a piece of A4 copy paper and trace around it with your pencil. Inside the traced area, sketch your design. (For words, remember to write them backwards!)
Transfer the Design: Place your sketch over the printing foam, aligning the edges. Press firmly with your pencil to transfer the design onto the foam, making deep indentations. Go over the lines again if needed.
Add Paint: Pour a small amount of one colour of metallic tempera paint onto a sheet of copy paper. Roll the paint onto your foam design using the foam roller.
Print Your Design: Press the painted foam onto the front of the folded card, positioning it in the centre. Press firmly, then lift off.
Add a Frame: Pour a second colour of metallic paint, roll it onto a clean roller, and create a border around your design. Leave a gap to form a clean frame.
Finishing Touches: Once dry, use Five Star Creative Paints to add fun details or accents to your design.
Steps for Wrapping Paper:
Roll metallic paint onto your foam design.
Take a sheet of A3 paper and press the painted foam design face down firmly. Lift it off to reveal the print.
Repeat to create a pattern, aligning each print as you go.
Once dry, add details or effects with Five Star Creative Paints.
This foam printing technique is simple, creative, and loads of fun. Kids will enjoy making their own designs while learning a new art skill. These unique cards and wrapping papers make wonderful keepsakes or gifts. Why not try it for your next art project?
