What You Will Need:

Steps:

Prepare Your Paper: Place masking tape over the areas of the paper you want to keep white (the umbrella area and below).

Mix the Colours:

Prepare your watercolours in the paint tray with a ratio of 3 parts water to 1 part paint. This makes the colours easy to dribble.

Set Up Your Workspace:

Place the watercolour paper on the edge of a bench so it hangs vertically with newspaper underneath to catch drips.

Apply the Paint

Apply the Paint:

Using plenty of paint on your brush, dab the colours at the top of the paper. Let the paint dribble down. Continue with different colours until you achieve the desired effect. Leave to dry vertically.

Reveal the White Areas:

Once dry, lay the paper flat on a table with newspaper underneath. Remove the masking tape to reveal the white areas.

Draw Your Umbrella Man:

Prepare your image of an umbrella and a person. Trace or draw it onto the white area of your painting using the HB pencil.

Paint the Silhouette

Paint the Silhouette:

Mix your watercolours with a ratio of 1 part water to 1 part paint for a stronger colour. Paint the umbrella and the person to create a striking black silhouette. You can water down Star Tempera by 50% or use 5 Star Ezy Dye or Watersoluble Dye.

Finishing Touches:

Sign your name like a true artist. Trim the edges of the painting for a clean, professional look.

This simple yet engaging project is perfect for children to explore their creativity with watercolours. The bright, dripping colours contrast beautifully with the black silhouette, making a striking piece of art. Enjoy creating your Umbrella Man, and have fun with the process!
