A Creative Adventure
Engage your child's hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and imagination with Du-Kit clay from Five Star Products. This versatile material opens up a world of colour combinations and artistic possibilities.
What You'll Need:
Du-Kit Clay from Five Star Products
Patterned serviette
Skewers
Rolling pin (or cylinder)
Wax paper
Cord (or string)
Knife
Elastic
Preparing Du-Kit for Use: Condition the Du-Kit clay by hand to soften it and make it pliable. Break off small pieces and knead them until smooth. Roll the clay into a long snake, fold it in half, twist it together, and roll it into a ball. Repeat this process until the clay is soft and workable.
Making a Transfer Print Bookmark:
Step 1:
Flatten and roll out the Du-Kit clay between waxed paper to prevent sticking. Roll between two skewers to achieve an even thickness. Cut the clay to size and shape.
Step 2: Select a 3-ply serviette and remove the bottom two layers, leaving only the top layer with the pattern. Cut the pattern slightly larger than the clay shape, creating one for each side of the bookmark.
Step 3: Gently press the patterned serviette onto the clay, ensuring it adheres smoothly. Place waxed paper over the serviette and rub in a circular motion to eliminate air bubbles. Repeat for the other side.
Step 4: Use a skewer or circular cutter to make a hole for the cord. Place the bookmark on a tile or baking paper and bake at 130 degrees Celsius for 1 hour.
Step 5: Once cooled, soak the bookmark in water for half an hour. Gently rub away the paper layer to reveal the transferred pattern.
Step 6: Thread the cord through the hole to complete the bookmark.
Making a Marbled Bookmark:
Step 1: Condition the clay as before, then roll equal amounts of three chosen colours into separate long snakes.
Step 2:
Lay the three snakes together and twist them. Roll with your hands to form one snake, then cut it in half and twist it together again. Repeat until you achieve the desired marbled effect.
Step 3:
Follow steps 1, 4, and 6 from the Transfer Print Bookmark section to finish your marbled bookmark.
Beaded Bracelet
Making a Beaded Bracelet:
Step 1: Roll leftover clay from the marbled bookmark into a snake shape. Cut even-sized pieces and roll them into small balls.
Step 2: Use a skewer or toothpick to make a hole in each ball from both ends to ensure a smooth hole.
Step 3: Bake the beads as before for 1 hour at 130 degrees Celsius. To prevent them from rolling, create a fan shape with paper and place them in the grooves.
Step 4: Once cooled, thread the beads onto elastic to create a stylish bracelet.
