Here is a Bright Idea:
How to Create Vibrant Scratch Art Painting in the Classroom
Learn how to create a vibrant scratch art painting using Star Tempera Paint. Explore the contrast by scratching unique designs into the black Star Tempera paint to reveal the bright colours underneath.
Materials:
Star Tempera Paint: Black and any bright colours (the brighter, the better)
Paint Brushes
Paper: Thicker paper for better results
Let's get started:
Step 1:
Paint a bright background colour. I used fluorescent Pink Star Tempera. You can use multiple bright colours it will still be very effective. It is essential to cover the entire surface for maximum effect.
Step 2:
Allow to dry.
Step 3:
Once your paper is completely dry, paint the entire surface with Star Tempera Black Paint. Making sure it is nice and thick. I painted this in both directions to completely hide the first bright colour.
Step 4:
While the black paint is still wet, use the end of a brush handle to scratch a drawing into the wet black paint. This will allow the bright colour underneath to be seen in contrast to the dark black. Allow to dry.
Tips:
Think about what you plan to draw with the scratching before you begin.
If you don't like your first attempt, scratch art painting. While it is still wet, you can paint it with black paint again and start again.
Conclusion:
Through the process of creating scratch art, students can learn to apply contrasting colours and explore their creativity. The vibrant colours shining through the scratched designs against the dark background result in visually stunning artwork.
Let your imagination run wild, and don't be afraid to start over if needed.
Enjoy the journey of creating your own vibrant scratch art masterpieces!
