This very creative art project produces some stunning effects! Using Five Star Indian Inks gives a vibrant effect, and this technique of using PVA glue as a medium also creates different effects. This project can be a little messy, making it even more fun!

You will need:

Step 1:

Cover your work area with newspaper before you start.


Step 2:

Cut 6-8 lengths of string into approximately 30-40 cm long and set aside.


Step 3:

Pour a little of each of the Five Star Indian Ink colours into the Paint Tray Base, keeping the colours separate.

Step 4:

Pour some Five Star PVA Glue General Purpose directly onto your canvas and use the foam brush to spread a thick coat over the entire canvas surface. Don't let the glue dry out.


Dip a piece of string into your first colour, leaving one end dry and free of colour.

Step 5:

Dip a piece of string into your first colour, leaving one end dry and free of colour. Make sure the string gets soaked, but not too much. Use a separate piece of string for each colour.


Take the first piece of string and lay it onto the canvas in an "S" shape.

Step 6:

Take the first piece of string and lay it onto the canvas in an "S" shape, leaving the dry end over the edge of the canvas. You could also try zig-zag or loop shapes.


Step 7:

Gently and slowly, without lifting, pull the string down from the dry end towards you and watch the colour transfer in unique patterns.


Step 8:

Repeat steps 5-7 using different colours to form your picture. Allow to try overnight. Experiment to get different patterns, shapes, and effects!
